Debra sees all the angles and loves to strategize for future success. Understandable for someone with her diverse background, experience and knowledge. Having begun her career working in public accounting for a decade, she went on to create her own consulting company, specializing in accounting firms and working with companies such as the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, Carswell (a Division of Thomson Reuters), Intuit Canada, CCH/Wolters Kluwer, and Accpac International, just to name a few. For over 15 years, Debra has proven to be a strategic-focused thinker, formulating successful strategies for practice management, HR and team building, business development, leadership, operations, and financial management.
She’s also an engaging and passionate speaker, winning competitions within Toastmasters and becoming an effective speaker in business. Debra achieved Competent Communicator and Leader awards, as well as served as her Club’s VP of Education.
Born and raised in Montreal, and having lived a few years in Calgary, she’s been happy to call Ontario home for over 20 years. A self-described ‘nature-girl’, she is happily surprised at how much she and her Golden Retriever are enjoying living in downtown Toronto and exploring all the city has to offer. She loves having her daughter nearby as a student at University of Toronto.

Todd Trowbridge is an Accountant by trade and business owner by passion. The Founder of Trowbridge Professional Corporation, he combines solid experience with his predisposition to intuit what private corporations need to do to save a buck or two when it comes to the tax man and growing a profitable business. His mantra “Don’t leave money on the table” fuels every engagement along with the thrill he gets from saving people tax. Todd’s passionate about problem solving and helping his clients by navigating the complexities of tax accounting and legislation for their benefit.
After working at both a Big 4 firm and a smaller local firm, Todd tapped into his entrepreneurial spirit and founded Trowbridge Professional Corporation in 2002.
Todd has completed levels I, II and III of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants In depth Taxation Program and is a current member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. He graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario, London.
Todd has worked with all sizes of private companies with a focus on service businesses in the healthcare and IT industries. His interest in technology, efficient business operations and improving the client experience are woven into all solutions he brings forward to his clients. When Todd is not ingrained in tax matters he can be found on the golf course, playing the guitar or enjoying time with his wife Rita and daughter Isabella.
Arun (Ernie) Nagratha knows a thing or two about turning opportunity into business. Ten years ago while working as a Finance Manager in Australia, Ernie experienced first hand what it was like to be an expat living abroad and saw a need for an expat tax advisor service. Ernie is now a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant, specializing in expatriate taxation as it relates to Canadians living and working around the world.
Ernie joined Trowbridge Professional Corporation shortly after its inception in 2002 to build the expatriate tax services practice. He has completed levels I and II of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants In-depth Taxation Program and is a current member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Ernie graduated with his Bachelor of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business, York University, Toronto.

Wayne Bewick is all about globetrotting and that is what he has been doing for the past 10 years as an expert in Expat Tax. Collecting a few million frequent flier miles of his own in the process, Wayne’s focus is giving people who have relocated peace of mind when it comes to their tax matters.

Before joining Trowbridge, Wayne spent numerous years at Deloitte specializing in expatriate and international tax services. He has completed levels I and II of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, In-depth Taxation Program; is a current member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, and the Financial Planners Standards Council. He is also licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Illinois. Wayne graduated with a Bachelor’s of Commerce from Concordia University in Montreal and is fluent in French.
When he is not jet setting on tax matters, Wayne can be found on a plane seeking out an adventure in a part of the world he’s yet to discover.
Being a frequent and avid traveller, Shajila Patel has experienced her share of borders. It’s no wonder she brings a keen worldly perspective to her role as a senior tax manager in the Expatriate Tax Group. Shajila is a U.S. Certified Public Accountant and a member of the AICPA with more than 20 years of experience in Canadian and U.S. personal income tax compliance and consulting.
Shajila’s experience includes compliance, planning and advisory on cross-border tax issues for the mobile executive as well as owner-managed businesses, partnerships, and trusts. She also has extensive experience in taxation matters relating to U.S. FATCA, trust and corporate reporting, and the recent and current U.S. amnesty programs.
When she’s not helping her clients navigate complex tax issues, Shailja enjoys cooking and baking, spending time with her family and, of course, doing more travelling.
Since 1997, Lionel has assisted businesses with cross border tax issues successfully navigate the U.S. tax system. Having worked as both an independent consultant and as a Big 4 manager, Lionel has worked with a wide range of clients from owner-managed businesses, billion dollar companies and accounting firms. He has helped businesses in many different industries, including real estate, technology, entertainment, retail and manufacturing. In addition, he has consulted clients with U.S. businesses on tax efficient structures and reorganizations such as mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
Lionel obtained his B.A. from the University of Waterloo and his M.S. Tax from Golden Gate University. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (Ontario) and a licensed Certified Public Accountant (Illinois). While not at work, Lionel enjoys travelling, spending time with his family and is an avid sports fan.
Peter provides a wide variety of cross-border (US and Canadian) tax services, including advising High Net Worth clients on corporate, trust, and personal structuring of their businesses, trust and estate planning, and trust and personal tax filings and compliance. He also advises individuals on tax planning and compliance implications of leaving or entering Canada, or expatriating from, or leaving, the US; as well as assisting them in US or Canadian Voluntary Disclosure applications.
As well, he consults with both companies and executives on designing deferred compensation plans, and determining compliance with US and Canadian compensation rules.
He has over 20 years of experience as a Partner in a big four firm in their Global Employer Services Group and the cross border tax field, and has published extensively on both HWN and compensation areas, and is a frequent speaker, presenting in many forums, including BNN, STEP, the LSUC, US Professionals Association, and Federated Press.
Peter received his B.C.L. (Civil Law) and LL.B. (Common Law) degrees from McGill University and his LL.M. Master of Laws degree from the University of Toronto. He is currently a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Canadian Tax Foundation.
Monica has over 25 years of experience in the accounting profession. Upon immigrating to Canada from Switzerland in 2003, she established Biz-Services, a consulting firm offering accounting, budgeting, job costing, software integration and training services.
Since 2006, Monica has been working with Trowbridge to establish the company’s accounting, payroll, and business consulting department to support its clients.
She enjoys collaborating with her team, researching and providing customized accounting solutions for each client, recognizing that every business has unique needs. Monica speaks English, French, German, and Swiss-German and she takes pride in making use of her language skills to communicate with the firm’s international clients.
Monica served as the Treasurer of the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce (Ontario) from 2012 to 2015 where she enjoyed working with the local Swiss community. She is a Certified Professional Bookkeeper and a member of the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada, a QuickBooks Pro Advisor, a certified QBO Pro Advisor, and a Certified XERO Partner. She is also a graduate of the Zurich Business School.
Her passion is Scuba Diving and she and her husband travel the globe to explore the wonders of the underwater world.
Dimitrios has over 17 years’ experience in providing companies with expatriate tax compliance and consulting solutions, advising on complex tax issues that arise from the global deployment of employees.
He began his career in 1997 in the International Assignment Solutions group at PwC in Toronto before moving to the Global Employer Services group at Deloitte in 2006. He has recently moved to Trowbridge Professional Corporation working in the Expatriate tax group. During this time he has also worked 6 years in Melbourne, Australia with PwC and Deloitte. He has expertise in Canadian, US and Australian tax and has advised on many technical issues including tax effective remuneration packaging, employee share plans, pensions, and tax equalization issues. He has also advised on and drafted expatriate policies for a number of multinational organizations.
